4 Out Of 5 Lyrics
like a symbol of math, a symbol meaning Greater Than.
I'm a factor in the whole plan.
Nine and nine therefore eighteen,
Eighteen and eighteen therefore thirty-six,
Four and five therefore nine.
drifting on a coffee buzz.
I need a mercy fuck.
You crowd me out.

I always saw this as about a guy whose been on a dry spell for awhile. He's finally met an attractive female and gotten her phone number. He's creating a silly mnemonic in his head to try to remember her number... "Four and five therefore nine, nine and nine therefore eighteen, eighteen and eighteen therefore thirty six, four and five therefore nine"... So the fictitious girl's number would be 459-183-6459.

I disagree with the whole sex angle, because if he's in the middle of getting some, why would he 'need a mercy fuck?' If her "knees thrust in one direction" her legs are together. i think they are sitting together, possibly in a coffee shop (?), and she is turned away from him, making him feel that he is the 'less than' in the equation. That would make her the 1 in 5. He's being rejected, 'crowded OUT,' and is considering his 'luck'
@~Doyle And here I thought it was 'quantify my love gun in a mercy fuck'. Which does make sense.

This song cracks me up :)

"is he just singing about one big math equation"

I think this song relates directly to an ancient thought of my own...
Resume Dating
Here you submit your past dating history, what you would like and dislike out of the relationship and possible refferences. Mike is obviously highly recommended, much like Dentine.

This song is about sex. "Her knees thrust in one direction like a symbol of math, a symbol meaning greater than" Think about sex, women's legs spread to make a > shape so you can... well you know.

I agree with the sex theme but I think this line:
" Her knees thrust in one direction like a symbol of math, a symbol meaning Greater Than."
Would see them in more if a rear entry on your side positon than a missionary style. Here knees thrust in on e direction ... not 2. And if they were on their sides with him behind it would be a greater than sign.

spot on Doyle, I agree 100%

Hmm, i hadn't thought of it that way, Doyle, but that does make some sense. The words "greater than" also lend creedence to that theory. And the last line, "You crowd me out", could be that that is a song about rejection and not about sex.
